Look What I Finally Finished from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I don't often have much time to sew quilts for myself anymore.  But I did finish one recently that I am in love with.

Remember these improv blocks I was making?

I finally set them on point and made this lovely quilt.

I did some fun, simple quilting on it.  Played around with thread color for some fun effects.

I want to make another one in hot colors now.  I certainly have enough solid scraps to make one (actually more than one)!

My initial plan was for this to be a Compassion Quilt.  But now that it is finished ...

Oh Scrap! : More Improv from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I feel like I accomplished something this week!

I finished up the last 5 blocks I need for my Improv project.

Here are all 25 blocks.  I need to settle on a background fabric, and I can start planning a layout.  The blocks are 8.5" square.

These scrappy blocks didn't make a big dent in my scraps but I can at least get the bin back on the shelf.

Hopefully this next week I will be able to get out my red scraps and finish up some RSC blocks.

Now it is time for you to share what ...

Oh Scrap! : Purple from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Even though I am mostly sewing together Compassion Quilt blocks, I still found the time to sew up 5 purple improv blocks this week.

I love how these blocks turned out.  My purple scraps have so much contrast!

Now I just need to sew up five blue/purple blocks and I will have a total of 25 blocks.  If I put the blocks on-point, that should be enough for a quilt.

I am looking forward to seeing what you have made with your scraps!

Oh Scrap! : A Few More Solid Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Not a lot of scrap sewing this week.

But I did finish 6 more improv blocks.  I now have a total of fifteen 8.5" square blocks completed.  Not sure where I am going with this project - right now I am just sewing up scraps!

Do you need a plan for your blocks when you start a project or do you wait to see where the project will lead you?  I rarely know what the finished quilt will look like when I start a project.

Hope I am not the only one that quilts that way :)

Oh Scrap! : Playing With Solids from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Whaa should a girl do when she already has too much on her plate?

Start another project!

I am swimming in solid scraps right now.  In fact, months ago, I started pulling solid scraps from my scrap bins to put into their own separate bag so my scraps aren't quite so overflowing!

I decided to start some new improv blocks using some of them.  I am actually using them as a leader/ender project.  They are 8.5" square.

Not sure how many blocks I will make.  I am working on more blue ones right now and I think ...

Nighttime Sky from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have finished my Nighttime Sky improv wall hanging.

I used the same technique I used on my Improv Garden and pillow.  I really like how it turned out!

The size of this piece is just 36" square and is made from navy and yellow scraps.

I changed up the lighting here so you can see the dark fabrics in the background really have a lot going on in them.  There is a lot of purples, turquoise and gray that add a lot of interest.

On the back, I used a New York City piece I have been hoarding for ...

Pillow Talk from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been busy preparing for an upcoming Improv Class in March.  I always like to share lots of ways to use a technique so I have been making a few more class samples.

I thought I would make a fun 16" pillow.  This is a great option to learn the technique but now commit to a whole quilt.

This class will also be provided with a pattern sheet for my Improv Garden quilt (that you partially see in the background).  I also hope to finish a Night Sky wall hanging soon.  It is just waiting for me to find ...

Oh Scrap! : Lots of Distractions from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been finding myself a little lost lately without any specific scrap projects to work on.  So every time I get a few minutes in my sewing room (that I am not sewing holiday gifts), I find myself hopping from bin to bin and creating a mess.

I did start a project I have had in my head for a bit.  After I made my Improv Garden, I kept thinking it might be fun to use the same technique to create lights in a midnight sky - they could be thought of as stars or lighting bugs.  I finished one ...
